Article No. 7

Situated on the main street of a small, but growing suburban town–Article 7 actively engages pedestrians and welcomes a new and diverse community to a historic downtown. Blending existing architecture with modern materials, along with innovative design elements, the new and improved structure fits seamlessly into the downtown environment. The exterior takes design cues from the old Earhuff Building once located nearby, but destroyed by fire in 1953. The interior celebrates the Lillie Newspaper Company previously located on the site, and small collections of archival newspapers are placed throughout the building, allowing history to live on.

Standing at the dramatic, acutely-angled corner of Helen Street and 7th Avenue, Article No. 7 welcomes everyone to the historic downtown—-blending modern and historical architecture styles. By managing the sense of scale and effectively using the buildings perimeter, apartment dwellers and small business owners are just a few steps away from engaging with their community.

The residence brings 84 new families to the main street of downtown—supporting local shops and restaurants—and live/work units on the first floor are cues to the past. The convenient location, anchoring the growing and revitalized Main Street, offers ample amenities and prioritizes community building both within the building and the neighborhood. Shared spaces are focused towards the historic downtown, allowing tenants to participate in many of the city’s activities, like the continuously run car show, gathering hundreds of locals weekly for more than 30 years.
