The Finch

When a building sits next to a park like this, the design decision is obvious: bring the park into everyday life.

At The Finch, we organized the building around views of Fred Richards Park, giving residents a direct connection to one of Edina’s most beautiful landscapes.

Overlooking Fred Richards Park in Edina, The Finch was designed to take full advantage of its rare connection to open green space. The client asked us to create a residential community that could frame those views while offering a wide range of housing options and amenities.

We sited and organized the building to open toward the park, shaping the massing around a park-facing courtyard that strengthens the relationship between the building and the landscape. Large windows and private balconies bring natural light into the residences while keeping the park visually present throughout the building.

The project also required an accelerated construction schedule. To keep the timeline moving without sacrificing architectural character, we incorporated precast wall panels that introduce depth, shadow, and texture across the façade.

Inside, the building includes a mix of residences—from efficient alcove units to expansive three-bedroom homes—allowing the development to support a variety of lifestyles.

Amenities focus on wellness and community life, including an indoor pool and spa, sport court, fitness center, chef’s kitchen, and outdoor courtyards with fire pits and lawn space.

Despite challenging soil conditions and a compressed schedule, the finished building delivers a vibrant residential community that connects residents directly to the park outside their door.
